Lammas camp 2015
For some of us, this was our third time attending the excellent Chesterfield pagans Lammas camp. Opening on a very sunny Thursday afternoon a number of us grouped at a nearby pub and drove up in convoy. We managed to secure a corner of the field to set up camp and it was fantastic to see so many old friends, we even made a few new ones by the end of the weekend. Every one of us was so excited, there really is something very special about Lammas camp; the atmosphere, the friendliness and the connection to the goddess. There were a few changes this year but the vibes remained very much the same. There was a great array of workshops and we all had the annual torment of deciding which ones we would attend and which ones would have to be missed; personal favourites this year were the chanting workshop held by our own Mr S, the smudge fan workshop and plant shamanism. A perennial favourite is the beating of the bounds; by way of opening camp, drummers walk around the camp gathering everyone as they go until we meet in the middle and form a circle for the opening ceremony.
This year we also had a Lammas ceremony, to give thanks for the harvests but the centre piece for many had to be the beautiful handfasting of two of our regular mooters J&K, truly there was not a dry eye in the houses during their vows. The weather held (bar a poor down on Saturday afternoon), there was drumming and fires every night and the sight of the candle lit labyrinth was particularly beautiful, a truly fab time was had by all.
