Viking festival York
Elizabeth's account of the 2015 Viking festival in York:
We went to York for the Viking festival which happens at February half term every year. This was our first visit to York for the Viking festival and we weren't disappointed. We arrived on the Saturday at the end of the weeks celebrations but just in time to see the Vikings parading through the market. The first we knew of the parade was the noise of 100's of Vikings marching down the road towards us. It was great to see them all in full costume. There were two medieval markets selling a variety of medieval and Viking goods, far too much was spent but how often do you get to buy horns, knives and swords?!? In the main camp there was a camp demonstrating life as a Viking and skills such as spinning,a Viking longboat and pewter casting. There were also renactments and evening entertainment throughout the week which we would love to see in the future although they seemed quite expensive at £12 a ticket! All in all a great festival and would definitely go again.
